Welcome!
As Brooklyn's District Attorney, I’ve demonstrated a record of leadership in establishing a more fair criminal justice system for Brooklyn. We have pioneered alternatives to incarceration and helped the formerly incarcerated return to Brooklyn. While the role of a District Attorney has traditionally been to prosecute offenders, I strive to partner with our communities to prevent future crimes.
We established several trailblazing programs to keep people out of prison. Our office started one of the first Drug Treatment Alternative-to-Prison programs for chronic drug offenders in the country, helping drug offenders get the treatment and care they need. Another program allows mothers charged with felonies to live with their children in a supportive environment.
New programs also help people who have been to prison return to Brooklyn and re-join their communities. A Harvard study found that these programs cut the number of repeat offenders by half, helping the formerly incarcerated and keeping Brooklyn safe.
I’m working to reform the criminal justice system and keep Brooklyn safe but our campaign needs your support. Donate to the campaign or sign up to volunteer today!
Thank you,
Charles “Joe” Hynes
Brooklyn’s District Attorney
